Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article aims to analyze the phenomenon of women using nicknames such as “Baixinha” (Shorty) and “Metida” (Conceited) on social media platforms, seeking to understand how these designations are perceived and experienced. To achieve this, approaches from Medicine, Psychology, Human Rights, History, and Social Studies will be explored in order to contextualize the topic and understand the impact of these nicknames on feminine identity. The aspects related to height and prejudice will be discussed, both in childhood and adulthood. Additionally, the socio-economic conditions faced by women from Bahia, with an emphasis on the poorest and most neglected regions of the state, will be investigated. Historical studies and accounts from women living in deprived areas, where hunger and lack of government assistance are a daily reality, will be presented. Lastly, the phenomenon of women self-identifying as "Metidas" on social media will be explored, seeking to understand the motivations behind this behavior and its impact on the construction of feminine identity.
