Alternative diets for poultry and swine: a brief review
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the midst of the current scenario of high production costs, exploring nutritional methods and strategies that make production viable is extremely relevant, in addition to helping nutritionists in decision-making due to fluctuations in the price of corn and soybean meal. The replacement of corn and soybean meal by alternative foods in alternative diets associated or not with exogenous enzymes and nutritionally adjusted or not, can be an excellent nutritional strategy for poultry and swine, in order to lower the cost of the feed without impairing the productive performance. In addition, it is understood that new studies must be carried out in order to completely replace corn and soybean meal with alternative ingredients in the diets, evaluating not only the performance, nutrient metabolism, nutrient excretion, but also the economic potential, fertilizer and energy from waste. Such information can contribute to sustainable and viable production, mainly favoring producers and everyone involved in the poultry and pork production chain.
