Sociodemographic and spatial risk factors for dengue in Northeastern Brazil An integrative review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the socioeconomic and spatial factors that influence the spread of Dengue in the Northeast.
Methodology: An integrative review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines in four electronic databases: PubMed, BVS/Bireme, SciELO and CAPES, published between 2015 and 2024, using the descriptors (Dengue) AND (Northeast Brazil). A total of 471 articles were pre-selected.
Results: After reading the abstracts, 38 articles were selected, 27 of which were excluded with justification and 11 were included in the qualitative synthesis divided by socioeconomic (4) and spatial (7) trends.
Final considerations: The persistent epidemiological trend of dengue in the Brazilian Northeast is influenced by factors such as sociodemographic and spatial inequalities, low education levels, precarious socioeconomic conditions and difficulties in accessing health care, which increase vulnerability. Therefore, public policies must focus both on vector control and on reducing social inequalities.
